Joe Anderson Goes From Outside Stadium To Inside Playing Wide Receiver

In a few hours you will hear your friends and family say the following, “New year, New me” at nauseam.  Some people actually mean it while others are all talk. This brings me to the story of Joe Anderson.

 

Anderson is a football player who was drafted by the Chicago Bears in 2012 and found himself on no roster this season. Like many of us struggling to reach our dreams he was jobless. About eight weeks ago he stood outside the practice facility of the Houston Texans with this cardboard sign. The sign read, “Not homeless… but STARVING for success!!! Will run routes 4 food. #Whateverittakes #Underdog #Ibelieve #Hungry.”

 

His unconventional way of getting the attention of teams worked because about six weeks later he was offered a spot on the New York Jets practice squad! Okay, I understand it isn’t a starting position but its something. In the times that we are living in you have to find different methods to get your way in the door.

Lebron James Wants You To Have Blazing Hot Pizza

It has been announced that Cleveland Cavalier, Lebron James will be the face of Blaze Pizza. He will be seen in advertisements, social media, and make appearances.

James has been an investor of the California based chain since the beginning in 2012. Now, before I let you in on more details around this news lets get into some drama. You may remember seeing James appear in commercials for fast food giant McDonalds but that will no longer take place.

The basketball super star signed a deal with the Golden Arches back in 2010 but hasn’t appeared in any ads. Why? Well  maybe this error might explain things. Last February, when James was asked why he started lifting weights he said that during his first few years in the league he ate McDonalds. In turn you can imagine it made him out of shape. Obviously, this was a blunder on his part and to comeback from that mistake he said he still ate at the fast food chain.

After splitting ways Blaze Pizza seem to be a better fit for the athlete. The restaurant took a page out of Chipotle‘s book by applying the assembly line concept.  Customers pick ingredients (includes gluten free dough and vegan cheese) to put on an 11 inch pizza or you may chose from signature pizza’s all for about $8 dollars. Desserts, wine, and craft beers are on the menu as well.

After starting out in California the company plans on having 88 restaurants in 22 states which include New York, Texas, and Nevada. (If you’re from my home state of New Jersey there are restaurants in Clark, Wayne at WillowBrook Mall, Paramus, and one coming to Newark). And that ladies and gentleman is how you come back from losing a major endorsement deal.

The “Jumpman” Michael Jordan Called Out By Stephon Marbury

You remember Stephon Marbury? The former guard of the New York Knicks (He’s a big star in China now). If you weren’t a basketball fan in the early 2000’s you might recall a player with a tattoo on the side of his head. The ink on his head represents the logo of his shoe line Starbury.  I remember the press and everyone and their mother talking about those sneakers in 2006. The hoopla surrounding the sneakers were their price of $14.98 a pair! Now, that takes me to Marbury calling out the greatest of all time. Michael Jordan.

Marbury has been on Twitter to generate interest on the relaunch of the shoe line but for the past couple days he’s been expressing his dismay of the Jordan sneaker brand.

I mean lets be real he has a point. Jordan’s can run you $250.00 easy and kids who can’t afford them feel pressure to fit in. Knowing that their parents cannot purchase these shoes the kid literally kills for them. You also have the stress of hypebeast that magnify the problem.

Serena Williams Wins Sixth Wimbledon Singles Title

In case you missed it Serena Williams beat spaniard Garbine Muguruza (6-4, 6-4) in London, England yesterday.

This triumphant win have different numbers swirling around it. If your anything like me numbers and math makes me dizzy so I’ve made it simple for you. Here is all you need to know in a simple format.

21– That is the number of Grand Slam titles Serena has won during her career. What are Grand Slams you ask? They are the four most important tournaments in professional tennis. They are The Australian Open which is played on a hard court during the months of January and February. Next is Roland Garros  (most commonly known as The French Open) which is played on clay courts through May and June. After that is Wimbledon during June and July on grass courts. Lastly, is the U.S. Open played on hard courts during August and September.

2– It’s the second time in her career that Serena holds all four Grand Slam titles.

3– Serena has won each of the majors at least three times.

4– It’s her fourth Grand Slam championship in a row.

6– This win makes the sixth time she has won Wimbledon.

21– Is the age of the opponent that she won against. Apparently, age ain’t nothing but a number.

 33– That is how old Serena Williams is. She is the oldest woman to win a Grand Slam tournament in the open era of tennis.  Her first win was 16-years-ago at the U.S. Open in 1996!

The next major coming up is the U.S. Open in the big apple next month and if she wins she will be the first person since 1988 to win all four majors in the same season. I’m not a gambler but if I had to bet money on someone it would be Ms. Williams because guess what? She is the U.S. Open three time defending champ!

Seemingly, the legend isn’t taking no days off. Here’s her thoughts after the big win.
